In the Hot Seat - JJ Engelbrecht answers your questions
October 03, 2013
Every week we give readers of BOKzine the opportunity to ask questions of South African rugby personalities. Simply sign up for our weekly fan newsletter, BOKzine, by clicking here!

Your Question: More JJ. John Ralph

JJ answers:Baie dankie John.

Your Question: Coming into the BOK team as a talented player, how much influence does an experienced center player like Jean De Villiers have on your game? Craig Munn

JJ answers:Like I’ve explained to John in the first question here Craig, he’s been an inspiration and a fantastic “teacher” to me in my first full season with the Boks. To play next to him is a massive honour and privilege as I’ve always regarded him as one of the best midfielders ever. And he is a wonderful captain!

Your Question: JJ you are seen as more of a running back than someone who creates opportunities n puts his wings into space. The best outside centres in the world O'Driscoll & Conrad Smith both hv a complete range of skills they display every game. They’re also brilliant tacticians n read the game superbly to make the right decisions. What is your actual plan to improve given that so much is expected from a 13 now? Blake

JJ answers:Blake, the big difference between me and the players you’ve named (I would also include Jaque Fourie on that list) is that they have much more experience than me at the highest level. Experience comes with time and playing next to someone like Jean will aid me immensely in the coming years. I really hope I can maintain my form to keep my place in the squad as I’m really enjoying my rugby at the moment.

Your Question: Hi JJ I think you're an incredible runner! But it is often said that your defence is a bit suspect. What do you make of that claim? All the best for the rest of the RC! Wes

JJ answers:I think my defence has improved a lot lately Wes and it’s something I’m working very hard on, with a lot of help from Jean, Morne, Bryan and our coaches. I want to improve in all aspects of my game, not only defence though.
